Committees &
Volunteer Opportunities
Programs: The Programs Committee determines the topics, locations and other logistics for SEPTA general membership and informational meetings. Volunteers are also needed short-term to help during meetings to register/check-in members, set-up/break-down the room.
Communications: Because SEPTA does not have a physical school that we are "attached" to, the Communications Committee is crucial to keep our members connected. This committee is responsible for all communications with our members, the community and the media. Functions of the communications committee include:
- Newsletter Layout/Production
- Newsletter Distribution
- Calendar
- Brochures & Flyers
- YahooGroup Management/Moderation
- Publicity & Media Relations
The Ways & Means Committee develops and plans SEPTA's fundraising programs through passive/active fundraisers and grants.
Membership: The Membership Committee enrolls new members and issues membership cards as well as maintains the current membership list. Because of the nature of our group, membership drives may be conducted at each school, coordinated with the school/SEPTA liaisons. Coorindates with communications committee to distribute membership cards with mailed materials as needed.
Liaisons: SEPTA hopes to have liaisons in each school to share information between SEPTA and the school's PTA. Liaisons are required to be members of both PTAs and to attend their school's PTA meetings to represent the interests of parents and teachers of children receiving special education services. Activities might include holding a meeting for parents of children receiving services, arranging a parent education meeting at the school, following up to ascertain that newsletters and other communciations are being distributed to parents.
Nominating Committee: The Nominating Committee is 3 to 5 members appointed by the board as necessary to field candidates for open board positions as needed. It is usually formed in January to field candidates for the election to be held at the April general membership meeting.
By-Laws Committee: The Bylaws Committee reviews the bylaws each year to determine if changes are necessary to enable SEPTA to run more effectively and efficiently.
