Recreational activities, summer & trackout programs for ages 4 and up in the are listed in the Specialized Recreational section of their Leisure Ledger and Summer Camp publications.
Go to the Raleigh Parks & Rec website publication page, to access their program listings. Programs specifically for children and adults with special needs are listed in the "Specialized Recreation" section. If you do not have access to a computer and do not have the ledger, please call 831-6640 to add your name to the mailing list and to get a copy. Early registration is recommended as some programs may be canceled due to non enrollment.
Note: Non-Resident surcharges do not apply to Specialized Recreation programs. That means that if you live outside of Raleigh, you don't have to pay extra to participate.
Leisure LedgerSpecial Olympics provides athletic and recreational opportunities for children from age 8 through adulthood. All training and required travel is paid for by donations, there is no cost to participate to the athletes' families.
Miracle League of the Triangle
For school age players with any physical or developmental disability which excludes them from conventional youth baseball leages. All games are held at the Miracle League Field located at Adams Elementary across from Cary Towne Center (805 Cary Town Center Blvd). The 2007 spring season starts April 11th & 12th. @ Lake Johnson Pool
This class was originally designed for homeschooled children with and without disabilties. For the summer, the group is open to everyone who can benefit from socialization with their peers. Swimming skills are not required but participants must be comfortable in chest-deep water. Parents, guardians, and workers are encouraged to attend and participate. Access Community Theatre
(teens & adults)
Limited to 15 students ages 15 and up, this class aims to provide important avenues for teens and adults with physical, emotional, learning and developmental disabilities to practice communication and performance skills, gain self-esteem, improve social and communication skills and explore new modes of self-expression -- all in a non-competitive, structured atmosphere to build confidence in their ability to prepare to take their talents to the stage.

Access Theatre Now
(ages 7-14)
Limited to 15 students ages 7-14, this class is designed to give students with developmental disabilities an opportunity to gain self-esteem and improve social and communicative skills. It culminates in an open classroom highlighting the individual talents of those involved.

Teen/Adult chorus and social skills group
Social skills group for teens and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities using the power and enjoyment of music to improve social skills, enhance self-esteem and provide a positive social experience within a small group community. Space is limited; for further information contact Yasmine White or Paula Scicluna.
Providing music therapy services in Wake and Johnston Counties. Private and contractual individual session and group sessions for children and adults. Music therapy is the use of music to work on cognitive, physical, and social skills.
Art Therapy
For young adults 16-27, this art therapy class focuses on social skill, self-confidence and artistic exploration. The group is held once a week in 6-week sessions at Health Associates in Durham by Martha Dyer. Maximum group size is 6 and the cost is $30 per session. Contact Martha Dyer at 286-7688x3.
